 Smart Traffic Control System For Ambulance


As per reports of Times of India at least a dozen people especially  those injured in road  accidents, lost their lives in last six months in the city, while on the way to hospitals. Patients died on thew ay as they could not reach hospital on time because of heavy traffic on the road resulting in the ambulances got stuck in traffic jams.


Abstruct :-  

​​Overpopulation is one of the biggest problems in the world today. Speaking about facts, an increase in the number of humans means an increase in the number of cars on roads. Thus traffic management is a critical issue faced in many metropolitan cities today. There are many problems with congestion with traffic light in many cities especially for emergency vehicles. Lack of efficient traffic control leads to loss of lives because of ambulance delay in case of getting stuck in traffic jams.

I experience some times ambulance stopping behind me in a traffic jam. I am helpless because I see several other vehicles in front of me, even I am stuck. Sometimes a traffic jam is long the traffic police officer will not aware that the ambulance stuck between commuters

Introduction :-

This heavy traffic is not just affecting Ambulances but also other vehicles like fire trucks also. But these major issues can be solved by alerting the traffic police or people incharge of traffic management about the Ambulance or Fire truck ‘s routes. If these people incharge get to know about the routes before time they can quickly alert the traffic which can make driving easier and smooth for both Ambulance / Fire Trucks and the entire traffic on road.

Vanjaleetal [1] have proposed a RFID-based system, which manages and regulates the traffic signals at junctions when the emergency vehicle approaches, by allowing the straight forward passage out of the traffic congestions. This paper proposes an approach which controls the Traffic Signals so as that when the emergency vehicle is on its way to a selected destination. The case of an ambulance is tracked by using GPS. This location is send to the application. The application performs the algorithm with the help of this data and so the google map. It controls the signals on its path. They also introduced a current blue light to stoplight to avoid the chaos within the mind of the people waiting at the stoplight. The working of the system relies on two important modules.

1.Architecture of Traffic Detection :-
The man objective  this technique is to form it possible for the ambulance to succeed in a specific location without having it to prevent anywhere until the destination is reached. This paper proposes monitoring of traffic lights and its controlling by the driving force of the ambulance. Basic information of the patient is taken alongside the status of the patient like critical or non-critical. This information is further wont to send it to the traffic light. Depending upon the emergency, the driving force sends the direction towards which it wants to travel. Depending upon the command, that specific signal is formed green to supply thanks to the ambulance and simultaneously the others are changed to red. Using this method, way is provided to the ambulance resulting it to succeed in the destination in minimum time

2. Architecture of Alerting Ambulance :-

The GPS Neo 6m is connected to the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module which is fixed in an ambulance. The coordinates from GPS Neo 6m of the moving ambulance are posted to the firebase database dynamically. The IOS app is developed is connected to the firebase database and used by the ambulance driver. The ambulance driver login to the app using his mobile number. He presses the emergency button when there is a patient inside the ambulance. When the ambulance is 500m away from the traffic zone, the iOS app receives an alert notification and the traffic zone is seen on the map available in the app.

2. Based on the Ambulance route Google map users/traffic police officers on that route or traveling closer receives alerts in advance

3. Google map users can avoid the ambulance route, and traffic police officers can ensure the traffic-free path to Ambulance





CONCLUSION

One of the major issues with the public transportation system in recent times is traffic congestion. The traffic congestion often blocks the path of the emergency vehicles which may prove fatal at times. Also, the number of deaths due to delay in the arrival of emergency vehicles have increased to a greater extent in recent times. Emergency vehicle ambulances need to be on time to prevent loss of human life. Thus, helping an emergency vehicle to move out of traffic congestion is very much essential in the current traffic scenario.

Traffic Congestion Detection and Alerting Ambulance systems are developed to overcome the above problem. In this system, the traffic congestion detected in the traffic signal. If there is traffic congestion up to 200m or above in a particular lane, it is detected and an ambulance is alerted before 500m from the traffic signal so that the ambulance driver takes an alternative route to reach the hospital.

The ios app is developed to show the traffic congestion in a 500m radius of the ambulance. The map is displayed in the app which makes the user (ambulance driver) have a better view of the traffic congestion.

In future enhancement, the alternative route can be shown to reach the nearby hospital avoiding the traffic signal. The app is developed for android users only. Hence, an android app can also be developed. The ios app developed can be enhanced by associating with the hospitals.The hospital nearest to the ambulance can receive patient details and status of health condition so that the hospital would be ready to treat the patient by the time the ambulance reaches that hospital.
